Emmy-winning production sound mixer and sound designer
José
Villaman
I record sound on set and shape it through post, for film, television, and brands. Based in New York and New Jersey.
About Me
I started recording friends’ rock bands at fourteen and producing music for hip hop artists. After studying audio engineering at SAE Institute New York, I spent three years at Electric Lady Studios, working with musicians, producers, and engineers on records.
I moved into sound for picture at the EICTV in Cuba, where I supervised and mixed short films and documentaries, some of which went on to festivals worldwide. I returned to New York in 2017 and won an Emmy for my work on The Story of My Number for YES Network. I’m a founding partner of STEMS Group.
